Starting in 1938, The Cody Nite Rodeo is one of the most beloved events in Cody. This nightly rodeo takes place during the summer and the action kicks off at 8 p.m. It is suggested that attendees purchase tickets in advance as they are known to sell out.
Dig For Dinosaurs In Thermopolis, Wyoming
At the Wyoming Dinosaur Museum visitors can dig for dinosaur bones. Participants attend The Dig For A Day' program where they learn about local geology and paleontology, digging techniques and how to collect data. They leave for the digging site at 8:30 a.m. and return around 5 p.m. Lunch is provided as well as tools for digging. This program is available seven days a week starting late in the spring and ending in the early fall.
Gem Mountain In Philipsburg, Montana
Visitors to Gem Mountain can purchase a bucket of dirt and sort through it to find sapphires. After they find their treasures they can wash them and either take them home or have them undergo heat treating and faceting so that they can be made into a piece of jewelry. For those that don't want to mine for gems they can just walk around and explore the area and try to spot some wildlife. Gem Mountain is the oldest and largest sapphire mine in Montana. The mine does close during the winter season so it's recommended that visitors check to see if it is open before planning a trip there.
Take A Stage Coach Tour In Virginia City, Montana
Visitors can visit Virginia City Overland Stagecoach to listen to a narrated tour as they make their way up Alder Gulch. They can learn about stagecoach travel and see the city's first jail and hospital as well as the first gold discovery site in Virginia City. A ride on a stagecoach is much smoother than you might think and gives an interesting insight to the history of the area, especially the Gold Rush EraÂ. The tours last 30, 60 or 120 minutes.
Watch A Show At The Playmill Theatre In West Yellowstone, Montana
The Playmill Theatre is great for families because it aims to promote family values. The cast is very interactive with the audience and even shows them to their seats when they first arrive. They will also bring them fudge, souvenirs, programs and basically anything else they need. Each show begins with a sing-a-long and a variety show. Soon afterwards the production that is featured for the night will begin. During the summer guests can see Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Miserables or Disney's Beauty And The Beast. Shows have been taking place at The Playmill Theatre for 50 years.
