2017 SPRINGTIME NATIONAL PARK EVENTS

This spring it's a good time to visit a national park and perhaps go on a tour. There are many events occurring during this time that both children and adults will love. These are just some of the many activities you can participate in at a national park near you this spring.

Where: San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park

What: Steam-Powered Donkey Engine Demonstration

When: Multiple Days Including 03/12/2017, 04/09/2017 and 05/14/2017

The staff at the park will demonstrate a steam powdered donkey engine for visitors to see. The park ranger will talk about how they were used both onshore and aboard ships to do various tasks such as load the cargo, raise the ship's anchors and set the sails. The machinery will actually be operated, and not just talked about, so visitors can see it first-hand.

What: 2nd Annual Kite Day

When: Saturday, April 1, 2017

The young and old alike can visit the park to fly their kites for the 2nd annual kite day. While there, they can see kite demonstrations, meet other kite enthusiasts and get a few tips on how to fly their kites. The park is a great location for visitors to fly their kites as there's vast space to fly them in. Attendees should bring their own kite to ensure that they will have the opportunity to fly one.

What: Battle Road / Parker's Revenge Battle Demonstration

When::Saturday, April 15, 2017

Visitors will get to see hundreds of reenactors engage in the tale of the Parker's Revenge Battle. It will feature battle demonstrations, a musket firing, tactile weapons displays and family activities. This is a great opportunity to learn about this battle since it isn't very well-known to a lot of visitors to this area.

What: Free Entrance Days In The National Parks Around The Country

When: April 15-16 and April 22

The National Park service is offering free entrance days throughout 2017, including in the spring. This is to help celebrate The National Park Service turning 100 years old. There are over 400 different parks to choose from. While there, visitors can take advantage of many different recreational activities including tours, hiking, biking and swimming. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of the parks while saving a little bit of money.
